Brief Intro

Dr. Samuel N. Bobrow helped start MOH in 1976 and has been instrumental in expanding the practice from its original location in New Haven to its current reach across all of New Haven County. As a medical oncologist and hematologist at MOH’s Hamden Surgery and Medical Center facility, he’s proud that MOH is able to offer state-of-the-art care in private settings close to each patient’s home. "We all are committed to giving the best possible care focusing on the individual and treating each patient in a compassionate fashion," he says. "Life is precious and one needs to balance the potential goals of therapy with considerations of quality of life and sensitivity to each patients needs." When he was only 10 years old, Dr. Bobrow had a blood disease. This experience set him upon the course of his career and continues to inform his understanding of what his patients are going through. "For as long as I can recall, I wanted to go into medicine. In college and medical school, I did research in cell biology. I began my career in oncology after I was chosen as a clinical associate at the NIH’s National Cancer Institute in 1970. I’ve been a clinical oncologist since completing my fellowship at Yale in 1974." Always learning more through local and national conferences, Dr. Bobrow is also an active member of his hospital’s tumor committees. He enjoys and is experienced in treating many different cancers. He has a particular interest in the most common tumors of both men and women: lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and breast cancer. He is also interested in hematologic malignancies, especially multiple myeloma, lymphomas, and chronic leukemias. Ultimately, however, Dr. Bobrow is most interested in his patients. "Each patient is unique," he says, "and you need to treat each patient as an individual who happens to have a tumor rather than just treating a disease."
