Dr. Marc J Philippon, orthopaedic surgeon, is recognized around the world for his advancing work in hip arthroscopy and specializing in sports medicine and hip disorders. He currently is a Managing Partner at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado and is the Director of Hip Research at The Steadman Philippon Research Institute. Dr. Philippon joined in 2005 after serving tenures in hospitals in Pennsylvania and Florida.
After completing his residency at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1995, Dr. Philippon served as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Later, he was appointed Director of Sports Related Hip Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Here he also served as Director of the UPMC Golf Medicine Program.
Dr. Philippon is internationally known for joint preservation techniques utilizing arthroscopic hip surgery. He operates on top athletes who continually use powerful hip rotation. Dr. Philippon also has worked on amateur athletes, as well as, PGA golfers, professional baseball, football and hockey players.
Dr. Philippon's research has been published in an assortment of peer-reviewed scientific journals. His "The Relationship Between Offest Angle Alpha and Hip Chondral Injury in Femoroacetabular Impingement" study was considered one of the top ten most cited articles by Arthroscopy Journal from 2008-2011.
Dr. Philippon has been to 15 countries to preform surgeries. He currently serves on the USSA, NHLPA, Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, The Steadman Philippon Research Institute, and ISHA's executive boards. Dr. Philippon is also an engaged member with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is a Fellow with American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and Master Instructor with the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Masters Experience Hip Course.
Dr. Philippon lives with his wife and three children in Colorado.
