After beginning his academic training by earning a Bachelor of Science degree at George Washington University, Dr. Kaplan elected to do post-graduate work in genetics at the same school. He attended Emory University’s School of Medicine—where he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree—and then started his post-doctoral training with an internship in General Surgery at Tulane University Affiliated Hospitals and Charity Hospital of Louisiana. Dr. Kaplan was a resident in General Surgery at Boston University Affiliated Hospital and a resident in Ophthalmology at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He also completed a pre-residency fellowship in Glaucoma at Tufts New England Medical Center and a Clinical Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases at the University of Illinois’ Eye & Ear Infirmary. Dr. Kaplan is a Clinical Instructor in Ophthalmology at Georgetown University Medical School and a senior instructor at Washington Hospital Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. He is affiliated with Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital, Silver Spring Ophthalmology and Friendship Surgery Center, and belongs to almost a dozen medical and professional societies and organizations. An accomplished writer and researcher, Dr. Kaplan has been published in more than a half dozen publications and given an equal number of professional presentations. He also has served as a clinical investigator in conjunction with various clinical research projects.
