Dirk Kiner, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic trauma physician. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Health, one of the largest health systems in the country, in 2006. During his final year of residency, he served as Chief Resident. He then went on to complete an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at the very prestigious Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte in 2007. Dr. Kiner began his practice at Erlanger in 2007 as the second orthopaedic trauma surgeon. Since that time, he has helped grow the division to four surgeons and he now serves as the senior orthopaedic trauma surgeon at Erlanger, the region's only Level I trauma center and one of the busiest in the country. As the region's only teaching hospital, Erlanger partners with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine - Chattanooga. Dr. Kiner serves as Vice-Chairman and Program Director for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This role allows him to help train tomorrow's leading orthopaedic clinicians and remain at the forefront of cutting edge teaching methods, research, and development in the fields of orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic trauma. Dr. Kiner's clinical interests run the gamut of orthopaedic trauma care. He specializes in all manner of fracture management, from simple to the most complex. He is also an expert in post-traumatic fracture concerns: nonunion (unhealed fracture), malunion (fracture healed wrong), deformity, and functional deficits.
