Brief Intro

A multiple year recipient of the "Top Doc in Westchester" distinction, Dr. Bernhardt is widely regarded for his exceptionally high standards of patient care. He recognizes the importance of the medical team and their expertise in the course of a patient"s treatment and seeks to provide the most promising treatments possible. Most of the time this will be derived from the current standard of care, and sometimes a clinical trial may be recommended when that appears to be in the best interest of the patient. Dr. Bernhardt graduated from Queens College in New York and then attended Northwestern University where he earned his Medical Degree. He interned at D.C. General Hospital in Washington,, DC. He served as a Resident in Internal Medicine at D.C. General Hospital and at New York Medical College, New York. His talents merited Chief Resident recognition at Montefiore Hospital, New York, where he also completed a Residency in Hematology. In addition to his responsibilities at AOA, Dr. Bernhardt serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York and as Chief of the Hematology/Oncology Service at Sound Shore Medical Center, New Rochelle. Dr. Bernhardt also founded The Doctors Cancer Foundation (www.doctorscancerfoundation.org) which provides support for cancer research. Dr. Bernhardt is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. Dr. Bernhardt began his career focusing on Hematology but his interest in Oncology quickly developed because "We can help most patients." He treats all cancers but has special interests in Lymphomas, Myelomas and Gastro-Intestinal Cancers.
