Dr. Adam Raben is a graduate of Duke University and a 1990 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine. During medical school, he was a visiting scholar and basic science researcher in 1989 in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Addenbrooks Hospital through Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. Dr Raben completed residency training in Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 1991-1993 and served as chief resident from 1993-1994. He received specialty training in brachytherapy during residency. Dr. Raben was a faculty member in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Memorial from 1994-1997. He was also a clinical assistant in the division of brachytherapy. Dr. Raben became board certified by the American College of Radiology in 1995. He co-authored the Lung Cancer chapter in DeVita's Principles and Practice of Oncology in 1996. He is also a co-author of numerous publications related to the treatment of head and neck, lung and prostate cancer.
Dr. Raben became Chairman of Radiation Oncology at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey in 1998 and directed the program until 2003. During this time, he developed a comprehensive prostate brachytherapy program with the introduction of Real-Time 3D computer-assisted permanent seed implantation of the prostate and Real-Time HDR brachytherapy for high-risk patients. He was responsible for the introduction of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) at Monmouth Medical Center, an advanced form of conformal radiation. Dr. Raben was awarded the prestigious Gallo Award through the Cancer Institute of New Jersey from 1999-2002 for clinical research in the treatment of prostate cancer and IMRT. Dr. Raben is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, and the American Brachytherapy Society. He brings with him an expertise and interest in the management of head and neck, lung and prostate cancer, and more recently in the use of small molecule targeted therapy for head and neck cancer.
