Dr. McLaughlin received his medical degree from The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center at Memphis in 1965. After a medical internship at City of Memphis Hospitals, Memphis, Dr. McLaughlin served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 through 1969. His internal medicine residency training was completed at The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., in 1971, while his cardiology fellowship training was divided between The Medical College of Georgia and The University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio and was completed in 1973. That same year Dr. McLaughlin returned to his hometown of Oak Ridge to establish a cardiology practice. He is presently a member of the American Medical Association, The Knoxville Society of Internal Medicine, American College of Physicians, American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Tennessee Medical Association and the Roane-Anderson County Medical Society. Dr. McLaughlin is a past president of the East Tennessee Chapter of the American Heart Association and of the Tennessee State Affiliate of the American Heart Association. Dr. McLaughlin and his wife Pamela live in Oak Ridge. They have three grown children: Melanie, a design director of broadband internet company, The Feedroom, in New York, N.Y.; Emily, a chief surgery resident at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Ga., who will begin a plastic surgery fellowship in July 2001; and Michael, partner in a computer consulting firm, Net Tech, located in Louisville, Ky. Dr. McLaughlin enjoys golf, snow skiing, wine tasting, cooking and landscape gardening.
