Dr. Adams grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, and moved to North Carolina in 1986 with his family. He graduated with Honors from Oral Roberts University with a Batchelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry. During his studies he became interested in world health after spending a summer volunteering in Nigeria.
This led him to studies in Public Health at the University of North Carolina, where he was graduated with honors and received a Master of Public Health degree (MPH). He used this training as a volunteer and as a college biology and health sciences instructor, before deciding to go to medical school.
He returned to Chapel Hill for medical school, earning his MD and additional honors. He is most proud of the Heusner Pupil MD award, given by faculty and peers, "to a member of the the rising fourth year class who shall show a great capacity to grasp the principle of science, to heal the sick, to comfort the troubled and to be humble before God.%u201D
He worked as resident and chief resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University in St. Louis. His residency training helped developed his skills in the use of minimally invasive surgery techniques and treatment of incontinence and pelvic support problems, pelvic pain and high-risk obstetrics.
Dr. Adams first practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology at the St. John's Center for Women in Springfield, Missouri. He also served as the Medical Director of Lactation Services and on the Perinatal (high-risk obstetrics) transport team for St. John's Regional Medical Center, Missouri's second largest hospital. As his family grew, their path led back to North Carolina with its grandparents, friends and Tar Heel sports!
He was blessed to discover the Lake Norman area and founded Lakeshore Women's Specialists in 2003, later joining forces with Dr. James Zolzer. He volunteers for the Mooresville community free clinic, and as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology and on the Medical Executive Committee at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
As his practice has grown, so has his family with the birth of his youngest child at LNRMC. When he is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, three children and Weimaraner, as well as his church family at The Cove. Other loves are running, reading, travel to the beach and mountains and %u201Cmarveling at the Carolina blue sky!"
