Dr Thomas R. Shepler has exemplified excellence in life's endeavors graduating 12th of 611 in high school getting a scholarship to Johns Hopkins University but going to the Air Force Academy instead, matriculating from the #2 Medical school in the nation (Johns Hopkins). He was not only voted the outstanding clinical surgeon in the entire US Air Force one year but also was president of both societies related to surgery the Air Force Society of Clinical Surgeons and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has devoted himself to not only excellence in clinical hand surgery but also as a devoted teacher. He has been participatory if an office program that has allow the entry of 7 medical students, 3 physician's assistants, one nurse practicianer and one pediatric residency (as of 2009). He has also taught orthopaedic hand surgery in Vietnam 2008 and published a chapter in orthopaedic pediatric surgery in a popular sports medicine text. Following in the tradition of Sir Wiliam Osler (Johns Hopkins School of Medicine) he has excellent skills not only in diagnosis of problem of the hand but in post injur or postoperative rehabilitation of the upper extremity
