Dr. Steele graduated with honors from Tulane University School of Medicine in their 6 year combined undergraduate/MD program. He is a member of the AOA Honor Medical Society. Following a rotating internship at Walter Reed General Hospital and pediatric residency at USA Tripler General Hospital, he completed a fellowship in both infectious diseases and immunology at Georgetown University Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health. Before coming to Ochsner in 2005 he was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Texas in San Antonio, Professor of Pediatrics with tenure at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Professor of Pediatrics with tenure at LSU Medical School. Awards include the Ogden Bruton Research Award, 14 Teacher of the Year and 4 Golden Apple awards, and most recently a Lifetime Contribution to Education Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has been named one of "Americas Top Pediatricians" and "Top Doctors in New Orleans" repeatedly. He has published over 300 journal articles, 26 book chapters, and recently published his 9th book on pediatric infectious diseases. He has been a member of the Committee on Infectious Diseases (Red Book) of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is on the Anti-Infective Drugs Advisory Committee of the FDA. He is on the editorial board of 13 medical journals and is editor of 3 peer reviewed journals: Clinical Pediatrics, Infections in Medicine, and Pediatric Infections Forum. ‘
