I joined NWP in 1981, first practicing at the Kaiser Permanente Division Clinic with the standard internal medicine workload of doing mainly clinic work and some hospital work. In 1990, I began taking care of patients in the hospital full-time and have enjoyed making the switch to provide more acute care medicine while still using what I learned in the outpatient setting.
I am married and have three grown daughters. The oldest is finishing a periodontal dental residency and was just married this past fall. The second works in the trauma ICU at the Oregon Health Sciences University, and the third will be finishing her training in dental hygiene and getting married this summer.
About my practice
When Kaiser Permanente set up the Department of Hospital Medicine in the Northwest region, we were one of the first groups in the nation to do so. I feel lucky to be part of a group that continues to innovate to provide the best patient care we can. For example, our group has become proficient at utilizing the discharge template, which is a tool that provides useful information to the patients while simultaneously making it easier for physicians to document core measures for the care we give. How I thrive
I do lots of activities to keep fit such as regular exercise and yard work in our one acre lot. I enjoy reading a variety of books and participating in outdoor activities as well.
