Dr. Abando earned a medical degree with honors from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. He then completed a general surgery residency at USC-Affiliated Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, CA. He practiced general surgery, advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery in Pasadena at Huntington Memorial Hospital prior to moving to the Austin area. He was part of the volunteer teaching faculty for the residency program at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association.
He has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic procedures such as laparoscopic colectomy, laparoscopic ventral and inguinal hernia repair, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastric bypass.
