Suzanne Smith-Elekes, MD, became Lutheran Medical Group's first infectious disease physician when she joined the group in October 2006 after 10 years with Infectious Disease Associates. Dr. Smith-Elekes, who is board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease, received an undergraduate degree from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., before earning a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she also completed an internship and internal medicine residency. Dr. Smith-Elekes was an infectious disease fellow at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J. Dr. Smith-Elekes, who has served as chair of the internal medicine and infection control committees at Lutheran Hospital, is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Infectious Disease Society of America, the Fort Wayne Medical Society, the Indiana State Medical Association and The Society of Hospital Epidemiology of America.
