Brief Intro

Steven Brower, MD, is the Medical Director of the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center and the Chief of Surgical Oncology, Professor of Surgery ISMMS at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. A nationally recognized hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal cancer surgeon, he has performed hundreds of surgeries related to cancers of the liver, pancreas, stomach, esophagus and rare gastrointestinal tumors (carcinoids). He utilizes both minimally invasive, robotic and open techniques for complex cancer surgery. Previously, Dr. Brower was the Endowed Professor of Surgical Oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Vice Chairman of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Director of Strategic Planning and Extramural Affairs at the Continuum Cancer Centers of New York. Prior to this, he was Director of the Curtis and Elizabeth Cancer Center and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Mercer University School of Medicine in Georgia and a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Scholar. Dr. Brower's current research involves genetic predictive factors for early gastric and hepatocellular carcinoma and genetic analysis of response to treatment modalities for pancreatic carcinoma. Dr. Brower co-edited the first evidence-based surgical textbook and authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles on gastrointestinal and surgical oncology. He has received Cambridge's Who's Who Surgical Oncologist of the Year and the American Cancer Society's Clinical Oncology Career Development Award. American Health Magazine recognized him as one of the nation's top surgical oncologists as chosen by his colleagues and he has been named numerous times to New York Magazine's Top Doctors. Dr. Brower has been professionally influenced by the unique courage of his patients and circle of care and support offered by their families throughout his entire surgical career.
