Dr. Goldfinger received his AB degree summa cum laude from Princeton University and thereafter completed medical school at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He undertook residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and became chief resident in medicine in 1967. Following fellowship training in the field of gastroenterology he joined GI unit in the role of clinician-educator and at the same time began a career at Harvard Medical School's Department of Continuing Education. As faculty dean for continuing education Dr. Goldfinger oversaw the growth of five newsletters directed to the general public, and served as the editor-in-chief of the Harvard Health Letter. He has held the positions of director of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Governor for the Massachsetts chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Goldfinger is a recipient of the Distinguished Clinician Award of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Harry Heller Award for contributions to the the understanding and treatment of patients with familial Mediterranen fever.
