I was born and raised in Chicago. I spent two years in the Air Force, and moved to Seattle to complete my cardiology training at the University of Washington. I have three children and three grandchildren. I was drawn to medicine by the challenge of integrating hard science with social science. I have served as president of the American Heart Association of Washington, clinical professor of medicine at UW, and chair of the board for of the Group Health Foundation. I enjoy the opportunity to mentor younger physicians.
