Being Board-certified in Obesity Medicine and Fellowship Trained in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery, he offers comprehensive obesity care from medications and diet counseling, to non-surgical solutions, to the full range of surgical options – all through small (or no incisions) for a faster recovery.After completion of medical school at the University of Texas Health Sciences at San Antonio, he did his General Surgery training at Rush University Medical Center and John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County (commonly referred to simply as Cook County). He then went on to do a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his board certifications in both General Surgery and Obesity Medicine.He founded the Bariatric surgery program at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago in 2010 and was the director of Bariatric Surgery at the Dallas VA. In 2016, he was the highest volume Robotic General Surgeon and did the most number of bariatric surgeries in the VA system. He has multiple publications in both journals and book chapters, has given numerous presentations across a wide variety of venues, has received teaching awards for Resident Education, belongs to various national committees, has performed live surgery broadcast to national meetings, and was previously Assistant Professor of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.He is currently the Medical Director of Metabolism and Nutrition at Methodist Dallas Center where he oversees the growth of both the medical and surgical weightless programs. He is a proctor, consultant, and speaker for Intuitive Surgical allowing him the opportunity to mentor surgeons around the country on implantation of robotic surgery technology in their practices. He is also a speaker for Aesculap, Inc and Apollo Endosurgery.
