Dr. Marnix A. Verhofste joined Iowa Heart Center's cardiothoracic surgery staff in 2000. Dr. Verhofste, a native of Ghent, Belgium, holds a medical degree from the University of Ghent. His post-graduate training included surgical residencies at the Hospital H. Familie in Ghent, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. He then served cardiac and critical care surgical fellowships at Massachusetts General, followed by cardiothoracic research and surgical fellowships at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Verhofste is board certified in thoracic surgery. He practices as Mercy Medical Center, Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Iowa Lutheran Hospital, all in Des Moines.
