Dr. Schimpff earned both his bachelor of science degree and doctorate of medicine from the University of Florida, then went on to his internship at the University of Colorado in Denver. He was awarded three fellowships at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville - in neurology, neuropathology and tumor biology. The first two were clinical fellowships and the third was a research fellowship. He began his career as an assistant professor of neurology at the University of Florida, and went on to become the school's chief of neuropathology. In 1979 he began practice with Glacier Neurological Associates in Kalispell, then went on to join Applied Health Services as an outreach physician based in Kalispell. Dr. Schimpff is certified through the National Board of Medical Examiners, American Board of Pathology in neuropathology, and American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology. He is a member of the Montana Medical Association and Flathead County Medical Association, a fellow of the College of American Pathologists, and held offices with the Montana Association of Neurology and Neurosurgery. He has been a lecturer, active medical staff, research instructor, neuropathology division chief for University of Florida's Department of Pathology, and twice chaired the Department of Medicine and later served as Chief of Staff at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
