Dr. Emerson has a distinguished career in orthopedics and sports medicine. He is a decorated combat Air Force flight surgeon accruing several air medals during his tour in Vietnam. During his first year of practice in 1978, he established the much acclaimed high school student-athlete comprehensive sports physicals. For seventeen years, he served as the orthopedic surgeon and team physician for the Phoenix Suns, The Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers. He has authored award winning publications and research, and has served as the President of the National Sports Medicine Academies. Dr. Emerson is also a founding member of the Arizona Chapter of College Football Hall of Fame. He is a board member of the Arizona Football Coaches Association and serves as Chairman of the annual, "Care of the Athlete" seminars. In 2005, Phoenix Magazine named him as, a "Top Doc" in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Emerson was founder and President of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics Sports Medicine. He is also the only physician to be named an honorary staff member of John C. Lincoln Hospital.
