Dr. Burt is Professor of Medicine and holder of the Barnes Presidential Endowed Chair in Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Utah College of Medicine, did his internal medicine residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University, in St. Louis, Missouri, and returned to the University of Utah for his GI Fellowship. Dr. Burt is an MD clinical investigator (gastroenterologist) whose central research interest has been hereditary colorectal cancers. He was involved with identifying the APC gene, describing the attenuated polyposis syndrome, developing strategies for genetic testing and surveillance for inherited and familial high-risk colon cancer. Dr. Burt thus has a particular interest in the rare form of HHT which combines symptoms of HHT and juvenile polyposis syndrome. Dr. Burt evaluates and treats patients for bleeding of the GI tract related to telangiectases.
