Dr. Vadhera is Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology. He is a nationally recognized expert in the field of Obstetric Anesthesiology, and is devoted to working with high risk pregnant patients, focusing on neonatal safety and ensuring high quality care for patients. Dr. Vadhera has made significant contributions to our educational mission, providing outstanding educational experiences for residents and medical students. He has been honored for his teaching excellence with the Anesthesiology Departments Laura Bragg McDaniel Teaching Award. Dr. Vadhera is a frequent lecturer at national meetings, including the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) and the Texas Anesthesia Conference for Obstetrics. He serves on the Board of Directors of SOAP and is a member of the obstetrical anesthesia subcommittee of the American Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Vadhera has worked tirelessly to provide the best clinical anesthesia care to high risk obstetric patients, and his efforts have made an enormous impact on patient care in the Labor and Delivery unit. Of note, Dr. Vadhera played a key role in re-establishing the Obstetrics program after Hurricane Ike. This important service was the first to return to function after the storm. Dr. Vadhera earned his MD degree from the University of Delhi in 1979. He completed anesthesia residency training in the United Kingdom, and an obstetric anesthesia fellowship at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. Prior to joining the UTMB faculty in 2000, Dr. Vadhera served as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
