When it comes to addressing the complex surgical needs of cancer patients, Dr. Pierre Greeff is meeting the challenge each day at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center (Southwestern).
Dr. Greeff earned a medical degree from the Medical School of the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Following medical school, he completed a medical/surgical internship at Greys Hospital in South Africa, where he subsequently served for a year as Medical Officer of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In 1968, Dr. Greeff moved to the United States and completed a general surgery residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas, followed by a surgical oncology fellowship through the Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research.
Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Greeff’s background includes running a thriving general surgery and surgical oncology practice, as well as training under one of the most renowned cancer surgeons in the country.
In addition, Dr. Greeff spent over 20 years as a member of the surgical teaching staff at St. Joseph Hospital. There, he also served for several years as the Associate Scientific Director of the Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research and the Director of the Clinical Hyperthermia Center, which he founded.
One of Dr. Greeff’s most memorable experiences at Southwestern was removing the tumor of a patient who had been previously told that her cancer was inoperable. A few days after surgery, she left CTCA cancer free, saying that she hadn’t felt so good in five years. It’s experiences like this that motivate Dr. Greeff to provide the exceptional care that patients come to expect every day at CTCA.
Dr. Greeff is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons.
