Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Rothenberg completed his Ph.D. coursework in Experimental Physiological Psychology at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Yeshiva University and his Master's thesis at the prestigious Rockefeller University, both in Manhattan. However, he became allergic to rats and opted to pursue more human endeavours. After fellowships at the National Institutes of Mental Health and National Cancer Institute, he graduated from The George Washington University Medical School "With Distinction" (awarded to the top 12 students of his class) and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He went on to complete his internship and residencies at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and University of Miami and, from there, practiced Internal Medicine and was appointed Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit for the Redwood City Kaiser Medical Center (the neurosurgical referral center for all northern California Kaiser facilities). Then in 1990, for family reasons (a wife with an identical twin in Long Beach and growing children), he moved to San Clemente where he has been practicing Internal Medicine with his wife (Dr. Deborah Brownstone-Rothenberg).
Dr. Rothenberg is board certified in both Internal and Critical (Intensive) Care Medicine. Additionally, he is the president of PacerView Technologies, LLC, a medical technologies company specializing in electrocardiographic localization of catheter tips. He is a joint inventor of the PacerView, a patented device that facilitates bedside display of an intravascular cardiac signal, and is the sole inventor on a patented method to place central venous catheters using electrocardiographic guidance; awards of his international patent application and another United States patent application are pending. He is a consultant to Bard Access Systems (an international medical device company), has explained ECG guidance to Medicare (CMS), has presented ECG guidance lectures around the country at many venues including annual and local meetings of the Association for Vascular Access (AVA) and the American Association of Critical-Care Nursing (AACN) and was invited to discuss ECG guidance at the first World Congress on Vascular Access, Summer, 2010, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
