Dr. Paul D Tortland founded Valley Sports Physicians in 1995, upon completion of his Sports Medicine Fellowship, and he has been a leader and pioneer in the Connecticut medical profession since.
Raised in Stamford, CT, Dr. Tortland completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Connecticut, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. He worked for 2 years both as a marriage & family therapist in his own private practice and also taught at the University of Connecticut Avery Point campus, before starting medical school.
He attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) in Biddeford, Maine, where he was also the recipient of a prestigious one year pre-doctoral fellowship in Osteopathic Principles and Practice and Human Anatomy. After completing an internship in New Jersey, Dr. Tortland returned to Maine for his residency at UNCEOM, following which he undertook a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Sports Care/The Toledo Hospital, in Toledo, OH. He and his wife then returned to their native Connecticut to establish his practice.
