Dr. Marshburn is subspecialty board-certified in Reproductive Endocrinology (REI) and is the Division Head of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility for the Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS). Prior to joining the Department of OB/GYN at CHS in 1994, he served as Director of the In vitro Fertilization (IVF) Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Marshburn attended Duke University and both Emory University Graduate School and the Emory U. School of Medicine. His OB/GYN residency training occurred at Duke University Medical Center, and he received his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility from the University of North Carolina. Dr. Marshburn is an active member in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers in leading medical journals, 2 books, and 80 scientific abstracts. Dr. Marshburn has been named to the Best Doctors in America and Who’s Who in Medicine lists since 1995. He is a member of AOA and has received awards for Residency Teaching and clinical research.
Dr. Marshburn has over 30 years of clinical experience with a primary focus on hysteroscopic and laparospcopic surgery. He has published innovations for both the teaching and implementation of minimally invasive GYN procedures. He actively participates in IVF procedures and has sub-specialty interest in managing patients with endometriosis, disorders of menstruation, and fibroids.
