Dr. Basman completed his medical school education at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1980. After graduation, he performed his internship in medicine and surgery at Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg. For the next year, Dr. Basman worked as a medical officer for Mission Hospital in Namibia, Africa. In 1985, he moved to Chicago for his internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Chicago in 1990.
