I was born in the beautiful country of Tunisia, in Sfax, the second-largest city. After finishing my medical degree in Tunisia, I was selected by my country to begin residency in general surgery at the University of Montreal and then cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Alberta. I completed fellowship training in surgery in Florida and also at USC in California. I come from a large family. I knew that I wanted to be able to make a difference in people’s lives, and practicing medicine gives me that opportunity.
