Dr. M. Larry Copeland is the founder and senior partner of Western Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri, and completed his orthopedic surgery training in Detroit, Michigan. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and has served as an Associate Professor of Orthopedics at Ohio University.
Dr. Copeland is past president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and on the Governing Board of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. He was also one of the founding directors of the Colorado Orthopedic Society.
Early in his training, Dr. Copeland worked with the Detroit Pistons, Red Wings, and Tigers. He serves as a team physician for Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction and has been its Director of Sports Medicine since 1980. In recognition of his 30 years of support, Mesa State College recently named its athletic training room the Copeland Family Athletic Training Room.
Since moving to Grand Junction in 1979, Dr. Copeland has been a Rotarian, served on the Colorado Mesa University Foundation Board, the Advisory Board of the Mesa County Economic Development Council, and has been recently inducted into the Hall of Honor at Mesa State College.
Dr. Copeland enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. They enjoy ranching, sports, and outdoor activities.
