Dr. Stokes graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1973, and he received his MD from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1976. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine from the University of Texas in Houston in 1979. Dr. Stokes completed three years of service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps where he served as Chief of Medicine at Fox Army Hospital in Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Upon completion of his duty in the military he returned home and practiced Internal Medicine for nine years. During that time Dr. Stokes served as Chief of Medicine for two years as well as Chief of Staff for two years. With some reluctance his wife and children agreed to allow him to return to the University of Texas at Houston to complete a fellowship in Cardiology which he did in 1994. He then completed his Interventional Cardiology training at Wayne State University under the tutelage of Dr. Zoltan Turi in 1995.
In 1995 Dr. Stokes joined the Cardiovascular Institute of Northwest Florida, and he is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and in 1999 added qualification in Interventional Cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians as well as the American College of Cardiology, and his clinical interests are in general Cardiology, non-invasive, invasive and interventional Cardiology.
