Mats Agren, M.D.Mats Agren, M.D. was born in Umea, Sweden. He came to this country as an exchange student and attended Deering High School in Portland, Maine. After finishing his education and military training in Sweden, he returned to Maine and received a BA from Bowdoin College. Dr. Agren received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. After completing an internship in general surgery at Maine Medical Center he went on to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester for his orthopaedic residency. He then completed a one year spine fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. Dr Agren is board certified in orthopaedic surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society. Dr. Agren has special training in the treatment of complex spine disorders, minimally invasive techniques for spine fusion and kyphoplasty.
