Brief Intro

Mary Sedarous, M.D. has been on staff at Jersey Shore University Medical Center since 2012. She currently serves as the Medical Director of the ALS Center and Neuromuscular Center at Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, as well as assistant professor of Neurology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. She established one of only two nationally certified ALS Centers of Excellence in New Jersey and received the 2023 Flame of Hope Award from ALS United–Mid Atlantic for her research and innovation.

Dr. Sedarous has presented at the American Academy of Neurology and published in peer-reviewed journals. Her center offers clinical evaluation and management of neuromuscular diseases, skin biopsies, nerve conduction/EMG studies, and facial nerve electroneuronography (ENoG). With extensive experience in diagnosing and treating complex neuromuscular conditions, she envisions a comprehensive, multidisciplinary center focused on clinical trials and advancing patient care.

Conditions treated include:

  • Myasthenia Gravis and disorders of the neuromuscular junction
  • Hereditary and acquired neuropathies, such as Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), multifocal motor neuropathy, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT)
  • Small fiber neuropathies
  • Muscular dystrophies
  • Motor neuron diseases/Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Hereditary and acquired myopathies
  • Disorders of the spinal roots (radiculopathy)
  • Entrapment neuropathies such as carpal tunnel syndrome and cubital tunnel syndrome
