I tend to see patients for considerably longer than the currently \"in vogue\" 15-minute med check. Every patient-doctor interaction is part of building the therapeutic alliance--a process where, among other things, the patient grows in their trust in their caretaker. This might engender motivation to take medication compliantly, follow the doctor's instructions as far as therapeutic recommendations, etc. Obviously, all of these things create a better environment for the patient to get better.
