Marcus S. Deranian, MD, FACS, FAAO, FRCP, was raised in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Deranian received both his collegiate and medical degrees from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1980 and 1983, respectively. He did his ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago/Michael Reese Hospital from July 1984 to June 1987. Just one week later, Dr. Deranian went on extended active duty in the United States Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska where he was the chief of ophthalmology and Midwestern ophthalmic consultant for several United States Air Force hospitals. Dr. Deranian was deployed overseas during January and February of 1990 as part of the international coalition force that prosecuted Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He achieved the rank of major in the United States Air Force before an honorable discharge July 4, 1991. Dr. Deranian practices at the Central Illinois Vision Center and sees patients at several central Illinois hospitals as well as Paris Community Hospital.
