Louis A. "Trey" Brunsting, III, MD is a board certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon and is a member of the TriHealth Heart & Vascular Institute (THVI). Dr. Brunsting completed his General Surgery training at the University of Rochester in 1989 and Thoracic Surgery training at Duke University in 1991. He is an internationally recognized expert in robotic and minimally invasive heart surgery. He was recruited by TriHealth, joining THVI at the beginning of 2019. Dr. Brunsting enjoys helping each of his patients understand their medical condition and what to expect with surgery to help them get better, using terms they can understand, such as "kinked fuel lines" for blocked heart arteries. While many patients need a traditional open heart surgery, he looks for every opportunity to treat them with a minimally invasive or robotic surgical approach - which have the advantage of quicker recovery and lower blood transfusion rates.Practice focus includes: Mitral valve repair and replacement Aortic valve repair and replacement Coronary artery bypass grafting Robotic heart surgery Minimally invasive heart surgery
