Brief Intro

After graduating from her residency in Radiation Oncology in 1998, Dr. Portelance completed a Fellowship at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St-Louis Missouri in 1999. She is double board certified in her specialty (American College of Radiology and Royal College of Canada). In 2010 she joined the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center team where she is Professor, Vice Chair and Director of the Clinical Research Program of the Radiation Oncology Department.With more than 20 years of experience in treating patients with gynecological or gastro- intestinal cancer, Dr Portelance has developed a solid expertise and has become an internationally renowned expert in the management of these malignancies. In recognition of her contribution to the field, she was inducted ASTRO Fellow in 2017. She has co-authored many publications including clinical guidelines which are used by radiation oncologists worldwide. Through her experience as principal investigator on national collaborative group trials and her leadership role in clinical research she has developed a solid expertise on conducting clinical trials which allow her to bring novel approaches to patients treated at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her work as a radiation oncologist is driven by her compassion for her patients and her dedication to improve cancer treatment results. She is focusing on using state of the art technology and combining radiation with systemic agents to decrease treatment toxicity and improve tumor control. To achieve these goals she is using Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, MR-guided adaptive therapy, Proton Therapy and High Dose Rate MR-guided brachytherapy judiciously tailoring patient's treatment for optimal results.
