Brief Intro

Dr. Poliner has been in private practice since 1987 and was board certified in Ophthalmology in 1988. He received a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Duke University in 1978 and a medical degree from Vanderbilt University in 1982. He completed an intership at St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis and received three years of residency training in ophthalmology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Poliner completed an eighteen-month Vitreoretinal Fellowship at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. His academic achievements include Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Duke University, as well as Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society from Vanderbilt Medical School. He was awarded two Heed Ophthalmic Fellowships and conducted original research in macular degeneration and retinal detachment repair during his training. He has presented numerous scientific papers at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons, an Honor Award recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the Retina Society, Vitreous Society, the San Diego County Medical Society, the California Medical Association, and a Clinical Instructor at UCSD. He was the Chairman of the Ophthalmology Departments at Scripps Memorial Hospital and Pomerado Hospital. He was the principal investigator for the NIH-sponsored Silicone Oil Study and Endophthalmitis Vitrectomy Study. He is also an investigator for current clinical trials evaluating new treatments for Retinal Detachment, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Age-related Macular Degeneration.
