Leo D. Fitzgibbon, MD, FACS, FACCP, has been a surgical leader in Erie since 1995. He is a staff cardiovascular surgeon specializing in cardiothoracic surgery in the Hamot Heart Institute at Hamot Medical Center. He is board certified in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Fitzgibbon specializes in the surgical treatment of coronary artery disease and valve disease.
Dr. Fitzgibbon brings the highest caliber of surgical expertise to the Hamot Heart Institute. Prior to arriving in Erie, he served as the Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Hospitals of the University Health Center of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Fitzgibbon has been a member of several professional organizations. He currently is a Fellow f the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians.
Dr. Fitzgibbon takes prides in his Irish heritage. He was born in Limerick, the third largest city in Ireland. In his free time, Dr. Fitzgibbon is also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan.
