Leland Housman, MD, is a general and cardiothoracic surgeon, specializing in adult cardiac surgery, minimally invasive techniques, valve repair and replacement, varicose vein treatment and venous disorders. He is also experienced in endovenous laser treatment, injection-compression sclerotherapy and ambulatory phlebectomy. Dr. Housman believes the best doctor-patient relationships are developed through open, honest communication. He also believes in finding the best possible treatment options for his patients, including minimally invasive treatments that typically limit or eliminate down time.
his clinical practice, Dr. Housman is an avid educator. Throughout his career he has been dedicated to the education of current and future physicians in the field of surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Currently he is an associate professor in the division of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of California, San Diego Medical School, as well as a faculty member in the Mohs Surgery Fellowship program where he educates and trains fellows in the areas of cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery. He was also honored with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Training Grant while at the University of Oregon Medical School. Dr. Housman is very active in the medical community as a fellow of the American College of Chest Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Surgeons and the International Cardiovascular Society. He is also a member and past president of the San Diego Chapter of the American Heart Association.
