Kenneth Shafer, MD, is a Staff Cardiologist in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, practicing at the Wooster Family Health Center, part of the Cleveland Clinics Regional Medical Practice. He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners with certifications in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Shafer has special interests in clinical cardiology, echocardiography and in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Following his undergraduate work in chemistry at the College of Wooster in Ohio, where he graduated with Honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Shafer received his medical degree from St. Louis University, graduating summa cum laude, and was inducted in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Shafer did his internship and residency in internal medicine at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He served as Chief Resident of the medical service at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Louis prior to completing a fellowship in clinical cardiology at the Washington University School of Medicine. The following year, he became Assistant Director of the General Medical Service at Barnes Hospital. Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic in 2002 as a Staff Cardiologist, Dr. Shafer was in private practice in cardiology in south-central Missouri. Dr. Shafer has authored or co-authored articles on his specialty interests. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).
