Dr. Nelson was born in California and grew up in the western United States. She completed her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey and then went on to receive a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. She obtained her pediatric training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After practicing in North Carolina for five years, she and her family relocated to Roanoke in the fall of 2005 to join Physicians to Children. Dr. Nelson is board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Nelson’s husband, Nate, is an avid golfer. They have two sons, Zachary and Jackson. Dr. Nelson’s outside interests include spending time with family, cooking, interior decorating, and travel.
