Dr. Kathleen J. Smith at Dermatology Specialists of Atlanta is American Board of Dermatology board-certified in three disciplines: dermatopathology, dermatological immunology, and diagnostic and laboratory immunology. Dr. Smith earned her medical degree (M.D.) from the Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa, followed by her completion of a three-year residency in dermatology at the prestigious Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Dr. Smith’s noted medical career includes distinguished service of over 20 years in a variety of capacities within both the public and private sectors. She began her profession in the active military sector as Chief of Dermatology/Chief of Medicine, with positions both overseas in Germany and Fort Lee, Virginia.
Furthering her professional career, Dr. Smith expanded her vocational experience in the capacity of professor at: Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD; Department of Dermatology/Department of Pathology, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine; Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA; and Co-director, Dermatopathology Fellowship Program, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.
