Dr. Maher, a Blacksburg native, holds a master's in accounting and information systems from Virginia Tech. He attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College and completed a sports medicine fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital. With 14 years in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, he provides top-notch sports medicine care at Carilion Clinics. Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he is also an assistant professor at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Dr. Maher played basketball for Blacksburg High School, John Hopkins University, and Roanoke College. He served as team doctor for the Boston Celtics and Harvard University Athletics and now works with local and regional high school and college athletic teams.
