Born in San Diego, California, but residing in the %u201CGolden Triangle%u201D from early childhood, Dr. Burns graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont then attended medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. A year as an intern at The University of California at Davis in Sacramento, California was followed by two years in the United States Army. After completing Orthopaedic Surgery residency at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Burns practiced for five years in New Castle, Pennsylvania; then completed a Hand Surgery and Microsurgery Fellowship at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, where he studied with Dr. Harold Kleinert. In 1980, Dr. Burns and his family returned to Texas when he was appointed faculty director of the Orthopaedic Hand and Microsurgery Service of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School. Since 1984 Dr. Burns has been in private practice in Houston. He and his wife now reside in League City, Texas.
