Brief Intro

John R. Burger, DO, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee and hip replacements, reconstruction and revisions. Dr. Burger was drawn to the field of orthopedics after experiencing injuries as a young athlete. He recalls going to an orthopedic surgeon who treated his various injuries and broken bones, allowing him to get back to sports quickly and safely. Later he watched his grandfather finally find relief after surgery on an arthritic knee that caused him pain for years. These experiences confirmed his interest in being an adult reconstruction specialist. Dr. Burger’s areas of expertise include the minimally invasive, muscle-sparing anterior hip replacement and other orthopedic procedures that achieve optimal outcomes for patients with faster recovery times. He also treats complex fractures and sports and orthopedic injuries, such as tears or ruptures of the cartilage, meniscus, bicep, tendon and ACL. Two mottos have stuck with Dr. Burger since his residency and fellowship training and shaped his philosophy of care: “the patient-centered experience” and “the culture of yes”. Recognizing that patient treatment goes far beyond the physical aspect of healing ailments, he firmly believes that care teams must always treat patients as they’d want their own family members to be treated, and work together to provide the best experience possible. Dr. Burger and his wife are happy to call Delaware home and to raise their five children not far from where they each grew up. They enjoy being close enough to visit the beaches and the attractions of metropolitan areas without the daily hustle and bustle of big city life.
