Brief Intro

Dr. John Liljenquist was raised in Washington D.C., graduated from BYU and later from the George Washington University School of Medicine. He did his internal medicine residency at UCLA. He then spent two years in a diabetes research lab at the NIH in Maryland. He then completed a two-year endocrinology fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville. He spent the next seven years on the faculty at Vanderbilt doing full-time diabetes teaching and research. He has published over 50 papers in the field of diabetes. Dr. Liljenquist left academic medicine in 1980 and moved to Idaho Falls where he has practiced endocrinology until the present. He founded the Rocky Mountain Diabetes and Osteoporosis Center in Idaho Falls and has since been joined by a son and son-in-law. For the past 10 years, he has again been highly involved in research, collaborating with several of the major pharmaceutical companies to evaluate new medications for the treatment of diabetes and its complications. In this effort, he has been involved in over one hundred studies. One of his major medical interests has to do with preventing patients with insulin resistance and pre-diabetes from going on to develop diabetes.
