John C. Sowell, DDS. Dr. Sowell is a native of Atlanta Georgia. His undergraduate work in chemistry and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree were completed at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. He fulfilled his General Practice Residency at Louisiana State University Medical Center, New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Sowell completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina in 1978 serving as Chief Resident from January 1, 1978 to December 31, 1978. He was board certified by the National Board of Dental Examiners in 1974 and by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1982. Dr. Sowell presently serves as Assistant Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Medical College of Georgia Hospitals and Clinics, Augusta, Georgia. He currently serves as team physician to the Greenville Growl professional hockey team in Greenville, South Carolina .Dr. Sowell has been in private practice in Greenwood, South Carolina since 1980 and limits his practice exclusively to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
