Jessica Raque, MD, is a general surgeon with the Owensboro Health Surgical Specialists on New Hartford Road. She performs a wide variety of surgical procedures, including gastrointestinal surgeries, breast cancer surgeries, hernia repairs, as well as vascular surgery and the treatment of varicose and spider veins. She chose her medical specialty during a surgical rotation in medical school. “I started off in trauma,” she says. “There’s nothing that matches that thrill of seeing someone sick or dying, fixing the problem, and seeing them get better.” A native of Louisville, Dr. Raque (pronounced like “rocky”) graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s in chemistry. She then completed her medical degree, a clinical research fellowship, internship and residency at the University of Louisville. She is certified in both endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Raque chose Owensboro Health because of the system’s capabilities, which she saw firsthand after a surgical residency rotation in Owensboro. “It had everything that I was looking for,” Dr. Raque said. “Owensboro Health has all the operating room capabilities I need.” Dr. Raque and her husband, a CPA and small business owner, have been married since 2012 and have three sons. In her free time, Dr. Raque enjoys spending time with her family, traveling (including medical mission trips), hiking, fishing and wake surfing.
