I grew up in New Jersey and went to college in Washington, DC. After volunteering in several hospitals, at a brain research lab, at the United Nations and as a tutor in an orphanage I realized that medicine was what I truly loved. I attended New York Medical College, and one of the first family practice residencies in the country in Syracuse, New York where I also met my future wife. I worked in Boston for almost 2 years and then decided to _see the world_ and spent 1 _ years traveling by backpack through the Pacific, Asia, North Africa, and throughout Europe. When I returned, I moved to the Pacific Northwest to work for the Indian Health Service and fell in love with the area and have now lived here for over 30 years. I became interested in the use of natural medicine and worked in a holistic medicine clinic as well as the Refuge Clinic before I came here in 1989. My wife has also worked here as a physician assistant, and we have two grown children, along with a Collie, a Samoyed and a very lazy cat.
