Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:I wish I could point to a specific event or time I decided on being a physician, I am unable to do so. As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a physician. In regards to the specifically wanting to be a pulmonary doctor, I decided on this as a intern in Internal Medicine when a ""bronchoscope"" was put in my hand. That did it for me. My strong interest in intensive care medicine fell in with this, as well. What I want my patients to know about me:Simple enough. As I have the honor of helping train the next generation of doctors, I stress two guiding principles that I try to live by. First, always do the right thing, and second, treat patients as you would want your family and yourself treated. Do this and then you have done well in your chosen career. What I do when I'm not seeing patients:Spending time with our children in New York and South Carolina. Tennis is nice, but I am just getting started. Of course, always sharing my time with my wife.
